Nail fungal infections are caused by microscopic organisms called fungi. Fungi can exist without sunlight.
Nail fungal infections are commonly caused by a group of fungi called dermatophytes (such as Candida). Yeasts and molds are the other two causes of these infections; these include:


  • Trichophytonrubrum – the most common nail fungal infections causing dermatophyte.

  • Epidermophytonfloccosum
  • Trichophytonviolaceum
  • Microsporumgypseum
  • Trichophytontonsurans
  • Trichophytonsoudanense

Common mold causes include:

  • neoscytalidium
  • scopulariopsis
  • aspergillus

  • 4-5 tablespoons baking soda
  • 1 cup white vinegar or apple cider vinegar

  1. You are required to prepare 1 cup vinegar and water enough that your feet can be soaked in it. For the next 15 minutes keep feet soaked. Afterward, dry feet using paper towels.
  2. Enhance the amount of baking and repeat the above-mentioned process
  3. Repeat this two times a day. The vinegar will destroy the fungi and its growth will be inhibited by baking soda.

What Are Fungal Nail Infection Risk Factors?

Here are a few factors which increase the risk of being infected from fungal infection: Living in a warm environment, family background, Weak health conditions, proceeding age, trauma, attending fitness events, immunosuppression (it can be a result of suffering from HIV or certain other drugs), taking bath at public showers (like those at a gym), and wearing shoes through which almost or complete toes are covered and which don’t allow airflow.
These infections as a result of direct or indirect contact can become contagious. For example, coming in contact with an infected person or sharing his shoes, clothes or socks. 3 to 6 days is the incubation period of fungal nail infection.


People who are suffering from diabetes are vulnerable to such infections and must consult their physician. However, if treated properly they are easily predictable. Like other infections, these infections are irritating and unpleasant too but are curable easily.
To fully get rid of the infection it may take a long time and may need extra rounds of cure. Sometimes it may result in nail damage or a permanent loss otherwise may also spread infection. Sometimes cellulitis may develop.
